Welcome to The Postcode Photo Project
Do you have a camera – big or small, simple or complex?
Do you use it very often? Or maybe just on holidays/special events?
Would you like to have some fun with it and try something a bit different?
Would you like to join a community of like-minded people?
So what’s the idea?
The idea of this project is to create a challenge/opportunity for you to “get out there” with your camera and take some pictures of “your world”. i.e. go somewhere within the postcode area in which you live … (there are 124 of them in the UK you know! e.g. B92, CO5, NW1 etc) and take some pictures of things that interest you. I’m hoping that this will help a whole lot of people get more creative and more confident in taking photos.
To make it more interesting the location probably shouldn’t be your own street/road… it’s good to go at least a bit further afield if you can. One way of doing this will be to find a random street/road within your postcode area – how about one that starts with the same letter as your surname?
Dont spend too long.. Spontaneity and Creativity are good partners
There is a time limit for the challenge – 30 mins to take 5 to 10 photos of ANYTHING or anyone you like (as long as it’s legal and not upsetting anyone e.g. don’t trespass on private property). The idea is not to think about it too much or over analyse but just let your eyes and natural preferences guide you to something YOU find interesting …it could be a close up, an abstract, a texture, a building, something in the distance… Anything!
Share your world
Upload your favourite 5 pictures onto the Postcode photos flickr group www.flickr.com/groups/postcodephotos. Full instructions are on the group’s homepage in the discussions area. Also do put in a description/comment about why you chose to take the pictures…it’s really good to know why things appeal. Anyone else can then comment or ask questions about the photos… but please be encouraging. Non-constructive criticisms won’t be welcome or tolerated.
I’m not a great “photographer” though and I don’t have a very good camera..
That’s fine… This is for anyone.. experienced or inexperienced (or no experience!) photographers alike…Young and old (Have a look at my 8-year-old Son’s photos on flickr – great imagination!). Those with SLRs, compacts, camera phones, Polaroids, disposables etc… all welcome.. it’s not about technical excellence .. it’s about creativity…
An evolving Project !!
I hope this will be fun. We’ll start simple with an open book to take any photos you like, but perhaps then will run a monthly challenge e.g. photo of your postcode that best represents you; the most interesting thing about your postcode; the most colourful thing in your postcode; what you would change in your postcode? – The options are endless!!
Perhaps a best photo of the month which will be featured here on the project website? Watch this space…
That’s a good idea. Well worth a try.
